After living for a year in Ucluelet, on Vancouver Island's rugged outer shore, we decided to fulfill another dream and move to the downtown area of Vancouver. These are the adventures, in words and images, of a couple of retirees now based in Lower Lonsdale.

Shipyard Sunset

Tonight, there was a market at the shipyard, an event when dozens of food trucks, vendor stalls and live music is presented. Marcelle and I made our way down the hill and spent an hour or so strolling around, enjoying the atmosphere.

On our way, we discovered some community gardens, and detoured through them, admiring the produce.

Down on the pier, people wandered or sat, many eating the varied goods from the food trucks. An excellent saxophonist played tunes as we walked to the pier's end to admire the setting sun over the water.

In conjunction with the event, the sunset was coincidently just spectacular, with the enlarged sections of sky in my viewfinder looked like images of the gas giant Jupiter.

The giant cranes of the shipyard stood like H.G. Wells' ominous Martian tripods against the darkening sky, their superstructure silhouetted by the setting sun's golds and oranges.

A feast for the palate, a feast for the eye, food for the soul. Lower Lonsdale at its best!
